The group decide to head to the Hinterlands to locate the dragon portal that they discovered was responsible for the appearance of the mark on Cedric’s shoulder. ad to find out more information if at all possible. The Night Elves direct them to the port at Rut’theran village at the base of the tree and advise that the quickest way back to the Eastern Kingdoms would be by boat to Stormwind.
During the journey the group get to know each other a little better and Maiti’s spoken Common improves to the point where her language isn’t so broken. When the group arrives in Stormwind they decide to visit the Mage Tower to let Maginor Dumas know of what they have learned.
During the discussion, the mage tells them that the quickest way to the Hinterlands would normally be to take the transport to Ironforge and travel by Gryphon to Stormgarde Keep, but due to Torrin’s unique circumstances that travelling by Gryphon for the entire journey and changing mounts in Ironforge as quickly as possible would be the best course of action. Torrin reluctantly agrees to this as Maiti asks what a Gryphon is. Maginor Dumas helpfully points to a patrol that is passing the window as Torrin explains why the Gryphons make the best transportation this side of Azeroth.
The journey to Stormgarde Keep is uneventful, save for the fact that Torrin changes his Gryphon in Ironforge so quickly that the others almost can’t keep up (who knew a Dwarf could move so quickly).
When the group arrive in Stormgarde Keep, they are advised of the dangers on the road as groups of brigands have been spotted in the area and advise the travellers to be careful on the roads. The group take heed of the advice and leave, grumbling about the miserable weather as they do. After walking for a few miles, all three group members notice they are being followed by a group of three people wearing black cloaks. Torrin suggests that the group find a bend in the road that they can use to hide to they can gauge whether these are some of the brigands they have been warned about. Maiti finds a hillock to hide behind, while Torrin and Cedric attempt to hide but are not nearly as successful as their elven companion. Torrin walks out to greet the group that followed them after hearing them mutter about how they’ve lost the group. One of the lackeys takes out a knife, and ends up with an arrow in his side for the pleasure.
A small skirmish follows, during which, only Maiti was slightly injured because the leader got too close for comfort. Torrin snorts and makes note of the fact that they had to have a camp nearby due to the scarcity of food on their attackers. Maiti follows the trail of the brigands back to their camp and notices that there are only a few of them headed by a particularly large and burly human. She heads back to her friends and reports the location of the camp. Torrin cracs his knuckles at this and takes Maiti up on her suggestion to “eradicate some pests”.
